Sowing love

Working from home was never on the agenda, I had never thought over a year on, that this would be the new normal. Over my long working life, I have always swung between working in administration or teacher support, but this job is a mixture of both. My responsibility in shaping young minds who struggle in a sea of classmates, by teaching them one-on-one, has led to many reflections, laughs, and challenges.
After a phone call with my immediate boss yesterday, I recalled she always says, before hanging up, "You make a difference". I brushed that aside, but later remembered that after a breakthrough session with my student. It had taken me a while to get the words soaked in my head, but I realised she was right! I could see the joy in the teen's face, as the complexities of Mathematics and English were now becoming real to her. I sowed a seed, and I could see it coming to life.
In scripture there are many good references to seeds, but in order for some to grow, there needs to be a death for the germination to happen (John 12:24). I have heard it misquoted in regards to ministries, but the verse talks about what is inside of us. The potential is inside us as that seed, but it may never happen if God's word doesn't shine through. Like my boss's words, there had to be a catalyst for the process to start. Next, the spreading of the seed, is essential for even greater impact.
Not all seeds start this way, but if we persevere and not lose heart (2 Corinithians 4:16), we may be an inspiration to someone else. In reflection of this, it has emboldened me to pray about how else I may use what I have learnt, and pay it forward to others. In a world, where the 'I' is more important than the 'we', now more than ever we need to be good sowers of love.
