Light of the World.

In our neighbourhood, there are quite a few houses that have put up their lights and decorations in, on, and around their house! They vary from traditional to some very Australian styles. I do enjoy a twilight walk to stop and wonder at the effort each house has gone to celebrate the season. But, naturally by early January, all of the lights and decorations will be gone. For a short time, it is a lot of work.

Over 2000 years ago, another light came into the world, that will never go out. His mercy, love, and care for the fatherless, widows, children and women, is still read in the bible to this very day. Jesus's actions and words have built institutions, formed governments, and inspired many to be Christians, which literally means "little Christ". His mission is the mandate in which we who partake in, live out every day.

The apostle John in his first chapter describes Jesus as the Light and what His purpose was on earth. He never let the darkness overcome Him, He understood that many would not know of His coming like the kings and men of renown, and His love would change the world. Christmas is part of the story, but by no means the end. Easter may have finished His earthly journey, however, Jesus still speaks into the hearts and lives of many people. We are all His little lights, and there are others who need to hear His good news.

In the hustle and bustle of the season, though we may feel weary, and tired, let us remember to shine our light, just as Jesus has shown us. The old children's song, "This little Light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine" is a timely reminder of how we should be. Who knows where our light may break through in a world that truly needs it?Wherever we may go, let us be a light for someone today.
