It's the little things.

Some of us, are detail-oriented people. We like to dot the i's and cross the t's. Lists are the wheelhouse in their lives. I am one of those people! While there are times looking over everything can be beneficial, there are times that many of the little things can overwhelm us. These can be debiliating, overwhelming and hard to get over, even when we have support. It takes a lot of hard work, especially in uncertain times.


Jesus himself, often had people come to him with 'little things' or news, to find out what was his opinion. He chose to overlook them, because these were not the reasons He came to earth. Jesus did not ignore these people, but rather was kind and kept on with His mission. Many times in the bible we are told "Do not worry" or "Do not fear", but how do we push past these feelings? Is there a cure for this problem?


Firstly, like Jesus, we can acknowledge that these situations, feeliings or events exist, but not to dwell on them. Admitting we have struggles makes us relateable. Secondly, praying for help from God, even when nothing happens, makes us feel better. As Jesus on earth, He experienced many of our problems as a human and understands how we feel. Lastly, we can focus on the kind of things God encourages us to think about.


Paul, the greatest missionary wrote this in the bible: "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things" (Philippians 4:8 NIV). It may not be the ultimate cure, but knowing that we have a task and a purpose to live out, drives us on to be an active person in His Kingdom.


Feelings, tasks and situations can build up over time to the point they become bigger, if we let them. Although they have some importance in that moment, they fade, when we concentrate on what truly matters. Corrie Ten Boom, who had faced a dilemma said it best "I simply forgot about it". In time, those little things, in light of what we face in the world will diminish, when we look to God.
