As I am writing this blog, my thoughts pondered about what love truly means. The dictionary has about 14 different meanings, but how do we see it really? Yes, I love my family, and they love me. I love my dog and she, in her own doggy way loves me. I also love following Carlton Football Club and Melbourne Storm, but when you look at all of these, they are the kind of loves, that have a connection, that has a limit.
But God's love is on a level we cannot fathom, anymore than we understand the Creator of the Universe. His love is vast, abundant, generous, and enduring, far beyond our finite thoughts can grasp. The bible describes how our hope is set on God, who loves us without limit. Romans 5:5 says "And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love (NLT).
His love also is so great He gave His only son (John 3:16), creating the bridge where we as humans can live a fulfilled life with Him. It never fails to amaze me that God sacrificed all for humanity, to forge a connection that goes beyond familiar, mere surface love, to a deeper, intimate relationship. No other god has such an extravagant and eternal love and died for us like the Lord God. While family, church and other things in my life have their place, God will always be number 1.
Love will be celebrated on February 14th, but the true love comes from the one who has the masterclass in love, that is, God. So when we remember what love is, when only need to look at the bible, see how He did it and follow the same. And that, is all we truly should have, to find true contentedness.
